The explosive impact of Gareth Bale at Tottenham has been cited as a prime example of how Chelsea could pull off a spectacular transfer coup.

Chelsea were the biggest spenders in the last summer window, splashing out to the tune of around £250 million. Several of their acquisitions took time to settle in, but the club are finally seeing the benefits of their deals for Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz.

The Blues were able to amass a warchest through a combination of factors.

Firstly, the club’s transfer ban prevented new arrivals in the summer of 2019. That, combined with the huge sums recouped from the sales of Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata meant club chief Marina Granovskaia has practically free reign six months ago.

Club icon Hazard, now 30, generated the club an initial £103.5m prior to add-ons. That was despite being recently labelled the “worst trainer” by an ex-Chelsea teammate.

Since the winger arrived in Spain, however, his career has stalled.

Just four goals have been notched in 36 matches across all competitions for Los Blancos. The bigger issue has been his struggles with injury. Hazard has been absent for over 50 Real matches.

Those factors wouldn’t instil much confidence in any club seeking to bring Hazard on board, but returning to Chelsea may be a different story.

Football London (citing Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo) reveal that Real ‘could sell Hazard this summer’ as they seek to recoup some of their investment.

Three different valuations ranging from £36m-£61m are noted, but even the highest would see Chelsea make a sizeable profit if he returns.

Current Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has surprisingly been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge. Should the American be deemed surplus to requirements, a spot could potentially open up for Hazard.

Hazard’s injury issues are not dissimilar to those of fellow Real forward, Gareth Bale.

The Welshman returned to Tottenham on loan this season, and after a slow start, has become a potent attacking force in recent weeks.

A return to the scene of so many past successes could be what Hazard needs to get his career back on track.

Chelsea nomad finally finding his home

Meanwhile, Chelsea winger Kenedy seems happy with his nomadic lifestyle and insists the current loan spell with Granada is the best period of his career.

The 25-year-old is currently on a season-long loan with Granada – one of many temporary spells in his career.

It has been a strange few years Kenedy’s career, but the former Vasco da Gama youth star has no complaints.

On his time at Chelsea, he told Granada CF official media: “It was very good. There were many Brazilians there and that helped me a lot. There were David Luiz, Diego Costa, Oscar, Piazon … one felt more at home.”

And he was equally enthusiastic about his time on Tyneside.

“Another great experience. I had more sequence of matches and enjoyed a little more,” he added.

There is no purchase clause in his loan deal with Granada. But it appears as though he would be happy to stay.

“I am living my best moment here at Granada,” he added. “I’m very happy and very happy with the season and with my best version.

“I am very well and happy with the whole group that is helping me a lot ”.
