Pep Guardiola had a feeling on the morning of the game that his side were ready to put on a show against Wolves, as Manchester City went 15 points clear at the top of the table after a slight wobble.
City scored three times in the final 10 minutes to end Wolves’ resistance and make it 21 consecutive wins in all competitions.
An unlikely second-half equaliser from Conor Coady, in what was a largely one-side encounter, gave the visitors hopes up of securing a surprise point. That was before Gabriel Jesus put City back in front with a shot on the turn after Kyle Walker’s cross had been deflected into his path.
With Wolves’ spirit broken, in-form Riyad Mahrez fired in his seventh league goal of the season before Jesus got his second with virtually the final kick following a VAR intervention after an offside decision had initially gone against the Brazil striker.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Guardiola said: “We were little bit anxious after 1-1 but we reacted really well after we scored the goals.
“It was well deserved – we played really good. The games are tight and in the last minutes we win the game comfortably.
“After 1-1, they were dangerous but we continued to take the ball and we didn’t give up and that’s a good lesson for us the little details.
“When you see the performance we were really good. I felt this morning that we were together and we were ready to try again.
Games just keep on coming
“It’s a short calendar this season. We didn’t have one long week – there are so many games and playing Wolves with their physicality and mentality; I’m more than pleased with what we’ve done so far and we can enjoy tonight, rest and prepare for the next one.”
As for City extending their remarkable winning run, the City boss added: “The record we will talk about in the future. In Winter time – November, December, January in England, it is hell! It’s more than remarkable.
“I’m more than proud but at the same time, Liverpool are the champions. To win the Premier League we need those points.”
