Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has joked that he felt like “opening the champagne” when he heard that Alisson Becker’s injury would not keep him out for too long.

Liverpool have endured one of the worst injury records of any team this season, many of which have been caused by the contracted nature of the campaign.

Indeed, Xherdan Shaqiri, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita are among those to have suffered muscle issues.

Alisson, who suffered a shoulder injury earlier in the season, will be out again for around two weeks. The Brazilian stopper suffered a slight hamstring issue in the 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday.

But Klopp, who has Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk out for the foreseeable future, joked that he felt like celebrating at Alisson’s comparatively short lay-off.

“Look, in these times, when somebody tells you it’s two weeks, you start already opening the champagne,” Klopp told Esporte Interativo.

“So it’s, anyway, four games. So we’ll see, maybe three games, I don’t know. It’ll be… he cannot play at the weekend. That’s how it is. So we have to see what to do then.

“It’s a little, little, little, little, little, little hamstring injury. It’s enough to keep you out.

“He felt it during the game, it wasn’t that bad, but after the game he mentioned it, we did the scan and we saw it. So he’s out for a little while.”

While Liverpool have welcomed the likes of Jordan Henderson back into the fold, their situation continues to be hampered by fresh injuries.

Indeed, James Milner also went down with a hamstring injury against Brighton. But the midfielder’s problem is worse than Alisson’s.

Klopp hopeful over Henderson, Robertson

Meanwhile, Klopp has said that he is hopeful that Henderson has not aggravated the back pain he had been experiencing.

The Reds skipper played through the pain barrier against Ajax on Tuesday.

Andy Robertson, meanwhile, had a significant amount of strapping added to his left foot. But Klopp is hopeful that the pair will be available for Sunday’s clash with Wolves.
