Norwich City are interested in signing Feyenoord attacker Steven Berghuis as a replacement for Emiliano Buendia, PA news agency reports.

The Canaries recently secured promotion to the top-flight at the first time of asking with Teemu Pukki and Buendia hugely influential for them.

Buendia bagged 15 goals and 17 assists in 39 Championship appearances. He was recently sold to Aston Villa on a club-record £38 million deal.

The club are searching for a suitable replacement, and have identified Berghuis as an option to reinforce their attacking department.

The 29-year-old could be available for around €4-5 million, but the Canaries will need to convince him to join them with plenty of competition.

PSV Eindhoven and Wolfsburg are interested in the Netherlands international, who was previously with Premier League club Watford.

Sportslens view:

Berghuis played a solitary campaign in the top-flight with Watford in 2015/16, registering two assists from just nine appearances.

He was loaned out to Feyenoord in the following season before the deal was made permanent 12 months later.

Berghuis has since excelled for the club. He bagged a stunning tally of 21 goals and 16 assists from 41 games on the right wing last term.

His performance have caught the eye of PSV and Wolfsburg, and the Canaries appear to be a facing losing battle in the pursuit.

The duo have qualified for the Champions League, and Wolfsburg are guaranteed a spot in the group stage of the elite competition.

The 26-cap international is likely to lean towards joining one of them over the Canaries, who could face another relegation fight.
