The latest development in the conflict between point guard Thomas Heurtel and FC Barcelona was the team not permitting the player to board the plane to return to Spain after the game against Anadolu Efes in Instanbul.
Current and former EuroLeague stars expressed support for Heurtel while, at the same time, calling out FC Barcelona for the way they treated their player even though both sides are looking for an agreement to terminate their cooperation.
Mike James, the star of CSKA Moscow, was one of the most vocal on the issue with several tweets.
The official statement by FC Barcelona did not change James’ views on the matter as he called the team’s behavior “laughable and embarrassing”.
Former EuroLeague champion Tyrese Rice hopes that Heurtel will eventually go to Barca’s arch rivals Real Madrid. Rice himself was a member of FC Barcelona and had to sit out one season due to not agreeing with the team on contract termination.
Kevin Seraphin, another former FC Barcelona player, tweeted that he is not surprised by what is happening.
