Crystal Palace, Brighton and Brentford are “targeting” Arsenal attacker Reiss Nelson with his contract set to expire in 2022, according to reports.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks with Arsenal and he made his senior debut for them during the 2017/18 campaign. But he has not been able to establish himself as a first-team regular yet.

Nelson enjoyed a fruitful loan spell in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim in 2018/19. He netted seven goals for them that term from his 23 outings in the German top flight.

The irrefutable proof that Pogba, Lacazette are staying

The winger returned to the Gunners ahead of the 2019/20 term. He played 24 times that season, but of these outings only 12 were starts. He got three goals and three assists across all competitions.

Nelson well even further down the pecking order last season as he featured 15 times across all competitions.

His contract expires in 2022 and there is “no imminent” sign of him extending his deal according to CBS Sports.

Arsenal have offered him a new deal and should he sign, he would be sent out on loan for the 2021/22 campaign.

They add that given his uncertain future, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Brighton are all “targeting” Nelson this summer. Arsenal must decide whether to cash in on him this summer or risk losing him for nothing next year.

Alexandre Lacazette’s contract at Arsenal also expires in 2022. He joined the Gunners in 2017 from Lyon for around £51m including add-ons.

The Londoners are said to be “open to offers” for him this summer. He netted 13 goals from his 31 Premier League outings last season.

Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to keep Lacazette during an interview with Football Insider. Campbell believes that they should “roll the dice” and keep the forward:

“Arsenal have shot themselves in the foot so many times over player contracts.

“I think this is a unique situation with Lacazette though. If you are not sure about which striker to bring in, you have just got to roll the dice with Lacazette’s contract. They have done it in the past with Aubameyang and it worked out.

“If they are not going to agree on a new deal, it is obviously something that will be addressed next summer.

“Listen, maybe they could get money for him but if he stays he will be integral to how we play next season. He did well all things considered last season.

“I have no problem with him staying and leaving on a free next summer. The Covid situation has made things difficult.”
